1958 German Grand Prix August 3rd, 1958: Stirling Moss in his British racing green Vanwall, ahead of pole winner Mike Hawthorn, led for the first three laps at the Nürburgring before retiring with magneto problems.
In fact, 12 of the 25 drivers in this race were British. Tragically, Peter Collins died after an accident in his Ferrari on the 11th lap, as Moss's team mate Tony Brooks went on to victory in a Vanwall.
